How is Climate Change Caused?

Studies show that over 97% of scientists agree that climate change is caused by human activities. As humans burn greenhouse gases every day, these gases (GHG) trap the suns heat - leading to global warming. There are many ways in which humans can cause this change in climate in relation to greenhouse gases and how humans can damage the environment. This page will provide you will all the information you need on how climate change starts in the first place!

How Does This Page Work?

This page is filled with information about how climate changed in caused but our aim was to condense it down, making it as clear as possible and a quick read! So each cause is illustrated in a box on the page, once you hover over the box a slideshow will appear. You can read through this slideshow at your own pace, clicking the arrows at the edge to change to the next slide.

Rising Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Human emitted gases such as carbon dioxide and methane are the pre-dominant cause, as such gases trap the suns heat and contribute to global warming.

Deforestation

As trees continue to be chopped and rainforests continue to be demolished, we begin to see the effects first hand. What is deforestation and why does it contribute to climate change?

Agriculture

As 2/3 of Irish Land is made up of agriculture, talk of how agriculture is causing pollution and driving climate change is admist. From methane gases produced by cows and the problem with fertilizers - how is this going to affect the planet in the long run?

Saving Your Planet

Welcome to Saving Your Planet. SYP aims to spread awareness about the climate crisis by providing interesting articles about the causes, effects of climate change and how you can help make a change. We offer small monthly actions which we encourage you to take that will help save your planet. We help you understand the information by attaching links on key terms to a keywords page that gives you a full definition and we include a series of images and reflection boxes to make our articles particularly interesting and informative.

Causes of Climate Change

How is Climate Change occurring the first place? From deforestation to the burning of fossil fuels, learn how our activity is leading to this global crisis.

Effects of Climate Change

What is Climate Change doing to our planet? Why do we need to save our planet? Storms and drought, changing weather systems and flooding - the danger is already occurring. Learn about it here.

How You Can Make a Change

So you've read above about the dangers and all the destruction that is happening on our planet as a result of climate change. Now its time to take action.

One Action a Month

By carrying out one action a month, we are already beginning to make a change. Every month, find one challenge to complete by making one small change to your lives that will help you play your part in Saving Your Planet.
