Earth Day is celebrated annually across the world. It is a time to remember the climate crisis and consider what you can do to help save the planet.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is celebrated every year on the 22nd April which has an aim to be a reminder to protect the environment, live a sustainable life and restore destroyed ecosystems. Each year a theme will be set for Earth Day, as it is celebrated around the world.

History

Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970. It began in the USA after the occurrence of the Santa Barbara oil spill, as people took to the streets in protest. There was no Environmental Protection Agency or any Clean Water Acts so American Senator Gaylord Nelson created World Earth Day as a way to spread awareness about the issue and force it onto the national agenda.

This year celebrates the 52nd year of the celebration of Earth Day.

Theme

The theme for this year, 2022, is "Invest in our Planet". This calls for people, businesses and world leaders to commit toward sustainable practices and "invest" in greener energies and technologies.
